Before coming to college, I was the type of person that wanted to please people with everything that I did. I wanted everyone to think I was cool or a good friend, and went out of my way to make sure everyone thought that way. Now, I've realized that true friends are those who stick by you through the good times, the bad times, the fights, the disagreements and some of your lowest moments. True friends are those who don't forget about everyone once they're in a relationship & even if you go a few days or weeks without talking, everything is the same when you do talk again. I've realized that not everyone who I thought was my friend at one point, will remain my friend in the long run. People will disappoint me, talk bad about me, hate me for being honest and not accept me for who I am, but those are the people who were sent to me for a reason. Those are the people who help shape me in to the person I am. I'm no longer the girl who stays quiet when I'm upset and keeps my thoughts to myself. If I have something to say to someone, I will say it (nicely of course) and if someone disrespects me in any way, I will stand up for myself. I guess the lesson that I've learned is that friends come and go, but those who stick around through the roller coaster of a ride through your life; those are the friends worth cherishing.
